Firm Profile
Acorn Accounting is a boutique accounting firm based in Boulder, Colorado. We specialize in nonprofit accounting, serving startups, small to medium, and growing nonprofits. We are a small team of experienced accountants providing technical expertise and best practices. We offer services on a retainer and/or project basis, ranging from bookkeeping to strategic planning and financial audits.
Acorn Accounting works with small businesses and nonprofit organizations. We believe that organizations with a social purpose are the backbone of America. We need each one of you to fulfill your mission and we are dedicated to doing just that.
Under this promise, Acorn was founded in 2016 and has served nonprofit organizations in several fields, including public schools, environmental, medical, and agricultural research, after school programs, and farming.
Approach to Providing Services

We work remotely, accessing Quickbooks Online and other online platforms from secure devices.

We are available to in-person meetings for board meetings and/or team strategic planning, as needed.

We hold bimonthly video conference calls between Acorn Accounting and the client to go over open items, review financial statements, ask and answer questions, and ensure the client feels fully supported.

We present financial statements to the Finance Committees and/or Boards of Directors.

Social Purpose
We are committed to giving back to our local communities. Social purpose is a core value of our firm and integral to everything we do. Our social responsibility program allocates pro-bono services to organizations that are socially impactful, serve the underserved, and incorporate sustainability to their missions.
Our Founder: Fany Bortolin
Fany served as Chief Financial Officer for private corporations for almost two decades. “Corporate is a great teacher and a really tough one.” In 2016 she founded Acorn Accounting and Financial Management with the original intention to serve regenerative farmers and help advance the sustainable food movement. She worked with land financing, carbon sequestration, agroforestry, and soon enough Acorn started serving public schools, researchers, soup kitchens, and many other impactful missions. “…I’m inspired and humbled by these leaders’ uncompromised commitment to society.”
Originally from Buenos Aires with Italian parents, Fany holds a bachelor’s degree is Social Psychology and two Masters in the fields of Accounting and Financial Management.
